Good Breathing is Important

How does holding your breath affect you?

-Limits effective gas exchange and cell oxygenation
-Creates false sense of core stability through overuse of the diaphragm
-Decreases organ movement that should occur with full lung movement
-Can trigger fight-flight-freeze sympathetic nervous system response

How can I work on this?

Be aware of when you subconsciously hold your breath. Work on deep, slow breathing in through the nose, out through the mouth. Practice deep breathing often to lower stress, improve oxygenation and increase relaxation. Get an assessment from a NeuroKinetic Therapy provider to correct the muscle imbalances.
